My Tilley Hat

IMG_4671I really love my Tilley hat. I bought it down it “Key West” on Duval Street. Guaranteed for life not to wear out, or they will replace it for free.  Now I want another one in another color of course. Maybe for my birthday my wife and kids will get me another one.

Why wear a hat? When you spend a long time out in the sun you need something to protect you head from sunburn and you from overheating. A Tilley has a airflow ridge at the top of the crown of the hat. You can machine wash it, and for the Guarantee for life. There is a story of an elephant trainer having his Tilley eaten 3 times by an elephant. Each time he’d dig through the shit and get his hat back. He’d wash it and keep wearing it. The Tilley company offered him a brand new hat for the one the elephant shit out but he refused and is still wearing the same hat.

If you read the blog or watch the YouTube channel (you should) you will see me wearing the hat everywhere I go!

Rock On!

Hobo’s are better than 47% of Americans

imagesEveryone cracks on Hobo’s when 47% of Americans are in worse shape that we are. A Hobo or CyberHobo “will work for food”. We’ll do odd jobs such as cutting lawns, raking, chopping firewood, etc. A true Hobo does ask for FREE handouts, we don’t turn them down either. But in the election process it was brought out the 47% of Americans are dependent upon the government. Does that mean 47% of Americans are “Bums?”

A Hobo is a person that travels to work
A tramp is a person that travels and won’t work
A bum is a person that will neither travel or work!

I was in the store buying some lunch meat, cheese, and bread. While at the counter I made small talk with this older man. I was noticing this other drunk looking guy getting some subs made up. Boar’s Head meat and cheese, and had extra meat put on two of the sandwiches. They looked great too! We both finished at the same time, him getting his sandwiches and me my store brand lunch meat, cheese, and I splurged on Bunny Bread. (life is good)

Coincidentally I got behind him in the checkout line. His totally with a large soda was $33.22. As he was complaining to the cashier on how much cigarettes were, he pulls out his EBT (food stamp) card. WTF… my family is eating store lunch meat because after working all week I can’t afford “Boar’s Head”. How is this possible? I work every day, don’t smoke, can only have a few drinks a month, I eat soup and a PB&J everyday for my lunch (or leftovers), and buy a lot of my cloths from the Goodwill.  I was so discouraged I almost laid my stuff down and walked out. As I walked out the door I noticed he went into the liquor store next to the grocery. I had to walk past and look in to see what he was getting… yep, a carton of ciggs, and a 12 pack of Natures Best.

My total came to $12.70 and all I could think of is,  “WOW, I really need to quit my job and go on welfare and let the government take care of me..”

So the next time you see a Hobo asking to do odd jobs and their wearing ragged clothes, maybe a little dirty, remember he is not asking anything for free… and that puts him in the other 53%

Fate

I hear a lot of people saying and asking, “what is my fate”. They are looking for some greatness or something earth shattering to happen to them. When in fact nothing probably ever will. Maybe I was put on the earth to give birth to my son who’s great great great grandchild is going to do something “Spectacular”. That means my only purpose on earth was to have a child? Maybe in my travels I’ve helped someone or saved their life (right place at the right time) and their future offspring are going to achieve greatness. But if it wasn’t for me it would have never happened.

fate

Yes we all have a Destiny and Fate but it may not be exactly what we think it’s going to be.

This is the Celtic “Knot of Fate”, you actually see it symbolized quite a bit. It’s the symbol for love and marriage. Like love and marriage it’s all tangled together but connected it many many ways. Not always beautiful but with ups and downs it only gets stronger.

Good Road to Follow…

good road to followEvery Monday I’m going to do a Hobo Sign to explain what it is. The first one is a “Good Road To Follow”. In the early years of Hoboes they’d mark signs for other Hoboes to follow. Sometimes good and sometimes bad. I’ll try and explain some of them for everyone.

This means that it’s a “Good Road To Follow”. What does that mean? Well it could mean it’s an easy road to walk, or road is full of friendly people, or plenty of food, really a lot of things. It told Hoboes that it was OK to travel that route. When you’re walking along think were you could put these that another traveler would see. They on buildings, walls, fences, back of signs, and any visible spot. Look around and see if you find any.

Pasta with Peanut Sauce

  1. Thai Peanut Butter NoodlesCook some pasta noodles.
  2. Drain Pasta when it’s tender. (keep a little of the hot water)
  3. In the pasta pan, add some peanut butter, garlic powder, dried crushed red peppers and the hot water. (any pizza place offer crushed red pepper, I go in a say my wife picked up a pizza a little bit ago can I get some of the Parmesan cheese and red peppers) Stir mixture and add more hot water if necessary.
    • I’ve used peanut butter and the hot oil sauce from a Chinese restaurant and it was good.
  4. Chicken can be added, if you choose.
  5. I garnish with a few peanuts if I have any

Inexpensive dinner and pretty good.  Cost about $1 if you have pre-gathered condiments.

The Hobbit

The-HobbitWe saw the movie “The Hobbit” tonight. It was no “Return of the King” but I guess it’s not suppose to be, it’s the Hobbit. It was a little slow in places and some of the CGI could have been done a little better, but it was a must see. I would recommend it to anyone as well. As a prequel the “Lord of the Rings” it does an excellent job in keeping in Harmony with the trilogy.  I see where it has become a trilogy as well. It was the smallest book, and the book went pretty fast but it’s NOT about the money.

I heard several people complain about Peter Jackson stretching it out so much. He did but he added to the story beyond J.R.R. Token. If he was to make three movie and keep me entertained for 3 hours at a time, God Bless him and the entire production company. I give it two thumbs up!

Old Cadillac – Nixon / Agnew

P1020219

I saw this old Cadillac, I found this at a local high school,  with the “Nixon for President” sticker on it! Being a Hobo I love it when people get their moneys worth out of things. The car needs some TLC but all in all it’s in great shape! I have a 2005 Ford Truck and I’m going to see how long I can drive the dang on thing. It’s ready for a new paint job and some seat covers but mechanically it still runs and drives great.

What sad is that most kids of today’s generation don’t know who Nixon / Agnew were.

Married with Kids…

boo2I never thought that life with a wife and kids would be so fantastic. They truly are the reason that makes life worth living.  I know other parents who will say, “I’ll be so happy when they move out”. It will be a very sad day in the life of CyberHobo and his wife the day one of the kids move out. My oldest son is 17 and youngest is 14, so I don’t have that long really until it is possible. I truly pray that don’t move out as soon as they turn 18, but I understand they do need to eventually move out and start their lives out of the nest. I can cry thinking about it… they’re my babies. I can’t imagine going days at a time without seeing them.

But on the bright side we are taking a 6 month and a 7 year old girl in. The 7 year old has been with us for 9 months and the baby since she was born… we’ll we took her when she was 3 days old, but was there from the time she was  born.

Happy New Year 2013

meYes another year has passed by me and it’s NOW 2013! I have lots of plans for this year as well. My biggest resolution is blog everyday here on CyberHobo.com and Vlog a CyberHobo video on youtube 3x per week for the year!  It doesn’t sound that difficult but I’m sure it will be a nightmare sometimes.

My resolution list:

1. Blog everyday on CyberHobo.com

2. YouTube video on My Channel

3. 8 x 10 photo of the month

4. Celebrate something every month with family and friends

5. Lose Weight – for health reason!

I think it’s a simple list and I’m really going to try and stick with it. Resolutions are good for us because it makes us want to be better than we are! I think everyone needs to have some personal resolutions for themselves.

Keep Safe… help with encouragement!
